His hands are roped and he is forced to trot along side of the lead Indian in the party. The sun beats down hard upon captured Casey. The refreshing waters cooled him down before this. Now he is sweating profusely, but not just from the heat. He is anxious about what fate awaits him once they get to the Cherokee encampment. He has heard lurid tales of what is done to their captives just for sport. Now he is about to find out personally whether they are true or not.

All this he ponders in silence. None in the party speak to him. They only speak amongst themselves, trading remarks and pointing fingers at Casey. They all break out into laughter. This is not comforting to Casey.

Casey gets more apprehensive as they near the Cherokee encampment. It is set up near a grove of pine trees and the whole tribe comes out to see their latest captive.
