Tarzan: The Ultimate Prize |
Meanwhile, John is still with Commissioner James, trying to locate Sayo’s camp. “We’re getting nowhere, Commissioner,” says a frustrated John. “Tarzan is in real danger. All the information we’ve found so far suggests that this Sayo guy will stop at nothing until he has captured Tarzan. He could already have Tarzan for all we know!” “I know, John,” replies the Commissioner. “But we have very limited resources here. I don’t know what else we can do.” “Well I can’t stand around here anymore. I’ll go out and find Trent. Maybe together we can talk to the natives more quickly.” With that, John leaves the office. A few minutes later, John sees Officer Trent talking on his cell phone. His back is to John so he does not see him walk up. John stops short when he overhears what Trent is saying. “Yes, John is still with the Commissioner. They don’t know a thing. . . . No, of course they don’t know where you are. I told you I’d call you if they did. . . . Yes, I can get away easily. I just need to check out with the Commissioner. I’ll be at the camp soon. I’m looking forward to playing with the ape-man myself.” John could not believe what he was hearing. A trusted member of the local police force in league with Sayo! But John knew he could not take the chance of confronting Trent here. It was better to follow him to Sayo’s camp. At least then he had a chance of freeing Tarzan. John followed Trent back to the police building. He entered the Commissioner’s office just as Trent was leaving. John immediately informed Commissioner James of Trent’s treachery. “But we don’t have time to waste,” continued John. “We have to follow him so we can find Tarzan!” They quickly assembled some officers and began to track Trent. |
